Nascer duas vezes: Ricardo Reis na revista Athena

Abstract

The Ricardo Reis that Fernando Pessoa presents to the public in the magazine Athena is a reborn Ricardo Reis, substantially different from the one who emerged in June 1914 and had written a hundred odes by the end of the 1910s. Indeed, the Livro Primeiro das Odes, published in October 1924 in the magazine's inaugural issue, divides the heteronym’s biography into two distinct parts. From that moment, Reis acquires the poetic profile that Pessoa would later endorse in his letter to Adolfo Casais Monteiro on January 13, 1935.
