Accelerated Algorithm based on Modified Z-Buffer for Numerically Simulating the Dynamic Radar Echo from Wind Turbines

As wind farms increase in scale, the computation speed of traditional methods struggles to meet the requirements for simulating the dynamic radar echo they produce. Consequently, the modified Z-buffer algorithm is applied to accelerate the traditional three-dimensional (3D) scattering point method of numerically simulating the dynamic radar echo of wind farms. The scattering points that make lower contributions to the radar echo are eliminated, and the simulation of one to eight wind turbine radar echoes is performed to demonstrate the speed that the proposed algorithm can improve. The dynamic radar echo of two wind turbines is simulated to verify the accuracy of the accelerated algorithm. The proposed algorithm is shown to effectively accelerate the numerical simulation without sacrificing much accuracy. A far-field scaled model experiment of two wind turbines is conducted, and the result is compared with the simulated signature. The experiment results are consistent with the far-field simulations.
