QUESTÃO URBANA E EXCLUSÃO SOCIAL: O que mudou nas favelas de Praia da Rosa e Sapucaia uma década após o Programa Bairrinho?

Abstract

This follow-up study presents the preliminary qualitative results of the urbanization of the Praia da Rosa and the Sapucaia slums, implemented by the Prefeitura Municipal of the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, through the Bairrinho Program, between 1996-1998. It is a theoretical and empiric study which will be completed by the updated results of the Census applied before this intervention in the two mentioned slums. The purpose of this study is to verify whether this policy has contributed to modify the condition of social inclusion/ exclusion of the inhabitants of these areas. The process related to the phenomenon of urban inclusion/ exclusion has been guiding this research.
