BACKGROUND OF STUDYING THE VERNACULAR OF THE CIRCASSIAN (ADYGHE) DIASPORA ABROAD: RESULTS AND RESEARCH PERSPECTIVES
Abstract
The article is devoted to the background of studying the Circassian (Adyghe) diaspora abroad. Here the results are summed up and research perspectives of this issue are marked out. The source base of the article includes works by authors who studied the speech of the Circassians living outside their historical homeland. It is noted that such research enables one to pinpoint transformation features of the Circassian diaspora’s vernacular under the influence of language and the culture belonging to a foreign-language population. All the scientific sources were divided according to the nationality of the author, as follows: foreign (Zh. Dyumezil, C. Pari, J. Kalorusso, M. Helig, etc.) and domestic (M.A. Kumakhov, R.H. Temirova, G.K. Chemso, H.T. Taov, B.Ch. Bizhoyev, M.M. Abazova, etc.) It is considered that foreign researchers, unlike domestic ones, weren’t native speakers. The specific features of the scientific works are defined according to the historical conditions of the time they were written. The purpose of the study is to summarize the results of a comprehensive scientific studying the Circassian (Adyghe) diaspora’s vernacular in Turkey as well as the research perspectives of the issue. The method and methodology of carrying out work. For the aims of the study, the comparative, logical, chronological, as well as predictive and system method were used. Results. The analysis of scientific works shows that the vernacular of the Circassian diaspora living abroad preserved archaisms, neologisms and loans that have appeared under the influence of a non-native language environment and as a result of a long absence of contacts with native speakers of the Adyghe languages. It is noted that despite the essential number of works on history, culture, folklore of the Circassians living abroad, many issues are yet to be studied, among them being diaspora’s vernacular as a marker of ethnic identity, its dynamics and mechanisms of preservation, specific features of morphology, syntax, lexicon, etc. Practical implications. The results of the study can be used in educational process and the research activities concerning issues of studying vernacular of various diasporas.
