New Perspectives of Understanding and Legal Protection of Animals

Abstract

Sustainable development means respecting and maintaining the environment for present and future generations. The major cause of imbalance is detected at present is the unbridled destruction of fauna, which exceeds wear flora and other natural resources. To think in an ecologically balanced environment in the future, the law must adapt to the full recognition of the rights of animals. Brazilian and international law point to a gradual paradigm shift in the interpretation of these rights: recognizing them dignity and equality, repulsing the cruel treatment, resulting in new consumption habits of human beings.
