Poliomyelitis is still one of the common causes of childhooddisability in a developing country like India. There arethousands of neglected (chronic) cases of post polioresidual paralysis, who are crawling in the villages and areunable to stand and walk due to paralysis of the lower limb.Rotary International has made an endeavor to provide freepolio corrective surgery facilities in collaboration withDepartment of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, KingGeorge’s Medical University, Lucknow to these poor andneedy disabled at their door step in six districts of EasternUttar Pradesh. Surgical camps were organized fromJanuary 2004 to March 2004 and in more than 500 cases,Polio corrective surgery was performed.During one of the such Polio corrective surgery camp atHindalco Hospital , Renukoot , District Sonebhadra inMarch 2004 , we came across a very rare and abnormalpresentation of Tendocalcaneus (TC) i.e. doubletendocalcaneus instead of one while operating a case ofequinus deformity due to post polio residual paralysis in leftlower limb.
