Trabalho e desigualdades no Brasil : desafios e contradições do atual modelo de desenvolvimento
Abstract
This article analyzes the evolution of Brazilian occupational structure from 2004 to 2013 by means of a discussion on social inequality and the current development model in the country along these years. The text highlights the importance of public policies to reduce inequality during this period. Our analysis is focused on the evolution of gender and race differences with regard to unemployment rates, wages and access to labor and social security rights. It stresses the drop in the levels of such inequalities in recent years, although we pointout the fact that there is a long way to still be covered for men, women, black and white to enjoy equal employment opportunities in Brazil. The text also examines the limits of this model, given the difficulties the country has faced to keep in place this pro- labor, pro-poor framework, in particular during the recent past.
