THE INVENTION OF TRUTH: IDENTITY, HISTORY AND LANGUAGE IN MIA COUTO'S "TERRA SONÂMBULA
Abstract
In the novel Terra Sonmbula, Mia Couto dips into the imaginary of a Mozambican region to make dreams the source of an identity seen as construction. For an area exposed to silence as Mozambique, many times its the dream that will build the past and assure the present. So, to remember the past sometimes means to imagine it. Literature, accustomed to the imagination, will be an important ally to the construction of memories, the assertion of identity, and the rescue of the lost dreams of this sleepwalking land.
