The aim of this study is to make a reflection about the transformations ocurred in the world of work and the repercussions in nursing work. To make brief considerations about the work while founding category of the human sociability in the current degree of development of the capitalism and its reproduction by means of the enlarged expansion are made. We consider as more immediate implications the aspects related to the demand of a global knowledge and of a specialized practice, the follow up of the technological advances, the captivation and the crescent consumption of information and the overcoming of boundaries of any kind (geographical, cultural, economical). Finally, it is suggested that nursing can not be at the mercy and the margin of such transformations, neither adhere to them acritically, but reflect about the possibilities and the limits of its practice. For that, it is believed to be indispensable to incorporation of strategies to the quotidian practice of nursing, such as: technical competence and politics with compromise and responsibility, working set democratization, greater integration among theory and practice, the unchaining of a continuous process of apprenticeship, the creation of mechanisms of raising of the self-esteem regarding the profession, effective politic participation in the society as a whole (associations, parties, syndicates) and articulation with other professional categories.
