Abstract
According to the Qualification Requirements for the Authorised Translators’ Examinations 2012, the examinations should measure examinees’ functional translation skills, i.e. how well they manage assignments where the legal considerations of documents need to be conveyed into other languages and for other cultures. In addition, test assignments should reflect the needs of working life and they should be selected taking the characteristics of authorised translation into account. In short, the assignments should be as authentic as possible. This article deals with the concept of authenticity and is based on a questionnaire completed by examinees’ taking part in the Authorised Translators’ Examination of autumn 2019. The examinees were asked about their overall view of the examination as well as the individual assignments specifically. The analysis of the questionnaire shows that the examinees are mostly satisfied with the examination and individual assignments. What they would like to improve are some details in arrangements and their own skills. In other words, the examinees do not see the eventual lack of authenticity as a problem.
