The objective of this study is to estimate the seroprevalence of Coxiella burnetii infections in cattle in the region of Jijel and to determine the risk factors likely to favor the infection of cattle by this bacterium. For this purpose, a seroepidemiological study was carried out. 184 serums samples of cattle from 90 different farms were analyzed by indirect ELISA technique. Information on individual animal and herd characteristics was collected. The results of the analysis revealed an individual seroprevalence of 15.76%. The study of the different risk factors (Age, breed) revealed no statistical relationship with Coxiella burnetii infection exception of the altitude factor which significantly influence the seroprevalence (p <0.05). We concluded from this study that Coxiella burnetii is present in cattle farms in the Jijel of Algeria. In addition, we recommend the implementation of hygiene practices and biosecurity measures on farms to reduce the spread of infection and the use of vaccination in animals and people at risk.
