The article presents texts by Margarita Barskaya, a Soviet film director and one of the founders of the Soviet children’s cinema, from the archive of the Film Museum. The texts are for the first time introduced into scientific discourse; they help reveal the features of the artistic worldview of the unique filmmaker, an enthusiast of children’s cinema. The first text deals with the aesthetic possibilities of individual letters of the Russian alphabet, and the second one dwells on the peculiarities of color perception. The texts were written by the film director at the time when cinema was just beginning to master color and sound. The third text is the full version of Barskaya’s letter about her teacher and husband Pyotr Chardynin, who was a pioneer of Russian feature film.
