The article is devoted to the controversy regarding the identifi cation of the terms « petrotympanic fi ssure « and «Glyaser’s fi ssure». Fissura petrotympanica, well-known to the otolaryngologists, dentists and of course to the anatomists. The symptoms, which bears the name of James Bray Costen or temporomandibular dysfunction syndrome are associated with irritation of the neurovascular bundle that is located in the petrotympanic fi ssure. Petrotympanic fi ssure is often called Glyaser’s fi ssure in professional literature. The results of scientifi c research work that are presented in the article show that there is no reason to equate petrotympanic fi ssure, fi ssura petrotympanica, with Glyaser’s fi ssure. наукове товариство ім. т. шевченка
