The article deals with comparison of diagnostic value of cystatin C and creatinine detection in blood serum at ischemic nephropathy in full-term newborns with asphyxia. It is established that serum cystatin C (unlike serum creatinine) can be the early marker of renal injury. In infants with asphyxia its level is significantly different from a comparison group at 1–2 days of life that can be used for early diagnosis of ischemic nephropathy. At the end of the early neonatal period cystatin C as well as creatinine indicates the intensity of glomerular filtration defects in asphyxia of different severity, but at the end of the 1st month of life only cystatin C allows to control the recovery of renal function.
