Product Driven Process Synthesis for the Recovery of Vitality Ingredients from Plant Materials
Abstract
In this paper, the last levels of the product-driven process synthesis methodology are used to formulate a conceptual process design for the production of a purified catechins powder. First a two stage adsorption process for the separation of the catechins was designed. Secondly a spray drying process is modeled to determine the equipment and the operational conditions, as well as the economic potential. The conceptual study shows that it is possible to obtain a powder of catechins with 83.5 % purity and a particle sauter mean diameter of 7.48 µm.
