Archiving, understood in a double valence, that is, as patrimonial preservation, but also as theoretical reflection and artistic-political intervention, has been characterized in recent years by its omnipresent nature and by the multiplicity of its forms. The expression "archiving" seems to refer to a wide spectrum of practices that range from the documentation of complex social processes to aspects that are part of people's daily lives, especially in times when digital encourages the pan-archivist desire of technologies of the present (Mendoza). Transversal axis in the critical reflection of different areas, as the articles gathered in this issue demonstrate, the archive is not given, but rather it is produced, it is an effect. It is at the same time a space, an object and a practice that is based on making something available. This dossier wants to give an account of what has been indicated while launching into the task of demonstrating different forms of archiving, as well as the impossibility of a total archive.
