CONTRADIÇÕES DO CRESCIMENTO EM FACE DAS RELAÇÕES SOCIAIS DE GÊNERO NA ATUALlDADE

Abstract

The segregation of labor market according to gender is a reality going beyond the national borders. ln several countries female workers focus on activities in which valorization and reward are proportionally lower if compared to those in which their male peers work on. Generally, this reality can be evidenced both in the crisis season and in those moments of economic growth, therefore reinforcing the theory that gender discrimination in the labor market outlines historical, social, cultural roots beyond the resolutions of economic nature, i.e., of capital accumulation. From a broad study performed between July of 201 O and June of 2011 on the access of women in the labor market of São Luis, particularly in the field of civil construction, we seek to understand the reasons that on one side, promote the increasing participation of women in a segment still controlled by male. On the other hand, we seek to analyze the barriers which hinder their insertion in this segment.
