The purpose of this article is twofold: on the one hand, it is aimed to elucidate the objectives pursued by the supplement La mujer, el niño y el hogar (1926-1931) in respect to the commercial interests of El Sol; on the other hand, it seeks to present a corpus of articles signed by María Luz Morales, director of the supplement. There, the author defends the importance of education and work for women, despite the fact that the publication harbored traditional domestic life as its central theme. We may regard this set of texts as a vehicle of Morales’s views, which were substantially influenced by the spaces of sociability to which she was connected, such as the Lyceum Club, and the reformist postulates promoted by El Sol.
