The description and the teaching and learning of Portuguese as a Second Language (PL2E) cannot be restricted to the language’s formal matters, but must take into account aspects of our society’s subjective culture which become visible in cross-cultural environments. For the teaching of PL2E in such an ambience to be effective it is also necessary to consider cross-cultural competence aspects so that the apprentice may adequately and successfully merge into the target language speaking group.
