Le protectorat, alternative à la colonie ou modalité de colonisation ? Pistes de recherche pour l’histoire du droit

Abstract

At the late 19th century, the French republicans give their favors to a legal formula which is supposed to be a real alternative to colonization : the protectorate. From this point of view, Tunisia seems to be an ideal « testing ground » to serve as a model. The aim of this paper is to identify a number of lines of inquiry in the context of a comparative approach using the principal « tools » of legal history.
