The image of the contemporary in the creation of Alexei Colîbneac

Abstract

Alexei Colîbneac is recognized as one of the most notorious masters of drawing in the art of Moldova. During his artistic activity, A. Colîbneac has made several impressive series of sketches of a high artistic quality. Drawings which are analyzed in this article represent a visual document of the last three decades of the twentieth century, illustrating the image of the contemporary man in the context of his professional activity. It is important to examine A. Colîbneac’s drawings, because the habit of making sketches has almost no continuity in the context of national art. The research intends to analyze the portraits of the personalities of the national culture made by A. Colîbneac, often, even during the meetings at which the artist took part, fulfilling his administrative functions. Olso, it is analyzed a series of self-portraits, made in different stages of his artistic evolution. Most of the researched works were never presented to the public, being carefully kept in numerous drawing folders in the artist’s workshop.
