RUSSIAN CULTURE VIA ENGLISH
Abstract
The paper addresses the issues related to the peculiarities of teaching a new course called Russian Culture via English to Linguistics majors within the M.A. degree program at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Area Studies of Lomonosov Moscow State University. The need for the course that was introduced in 2016 stems from the fact that in the era of translingualism and transculturalism there is a pressing necessity to teach linguists, future-to-be teachers of English, able to communicate and teach in formation about their own Russian culture as well as to express their own national identity via English, specifically Russian English, in order for them to be fully competent professionals. The paper primarily focuses on the course syllabus and objectives, lesson format as well as techniques and materials used in the classroom.
