In an article published in 1985, 14 years after the appearance of his Theory of Justice, Rawls seeks to make explicit the extent to which his conception of justice can dispense with any type of metaphysical origin. Although it cannot carry out an exhaustiveanalysis of Rawls’s political theory, the article examines the assumptions and consequences of this statement, according to which the principles of justice operate in a purely political framework. The question on which the discussion is based and structured is that regarding the political subject in Rawls.
