Zona Neoschwagerina craticulifera in the Middle Velebit Mt. (Croatia, Yugoslavia)
Abstract
In the median part of the Velebit Mt. (SW Croatia, Yugoslavia) black limestones of the Zone have been investigated. Numerous fossils (175 taxa) have been determined and arranged into the fossil communities.The relationship betvween the type of sediment and the composition of fossil community has been studied.It was concluded that, during the Murghabian, the investigated region repre sented a shallow marine carbonate platform, settled in subtro pic climatic belt. Sea floor was overgrown with algal plains. Atseveral places mud-mounds and patch -reefs were created by fixosessile organisms. Sediments at the eastern edge of thezone were deposited in an intraplat form depression.
