This paper focuses the population of the functional territories built by industrialists for two centuries and their future with industrial decline. Indeed, manufacturers, for the needs of their activity, have attracted workforce, which has modified the settlement and population of previously rural territories, by creating towns or specific districts (workers villages, company towns, industrial suburbs, etc.). The successive waves of crisis in the second half of the 20th century strongly affected these territories, which were then without their main stakeholder. To retain their population, they had to be redeveloped and regenerated, respecting a local identity and culture deeply marked by industry.
