Abstract

The authors analyse decisions of the Supreme Court of the Czechoslovak Republic regarding the application of the Act on the Protection of the Republic (1923) in cases of disturbing the peace, perceived as manifestations of left-wing radicalism. In addition to the legal-historical analysis of selected representative cases, the authors also address the issue of proportionality within the framework of legislation and its judicial application in the sense of the necessity of the correct assessment of the necessity and adequacy of the state authorities’ interference into the freedom of speech in the changing situation of the 1920s and 1930s.
