CREATION OF IRONY IN STORIES BY Н. BÖLL AND ITS TRANSLATION
Abstract
This article discusses the mechanisms of creating irony in the stories of H. Böll and analyzes the ways of their translation into Russian. The relevance of the study is due to the cognitive approach, which allows to identify means of expression and transmission of irony. Purpose. Purpose of the study is a linguistic-cognitive analysis of the creation of irony in artistic discourse and the study of translation strategies for transferring ironic discourse to the translation text. Methods and material. The material served as 39 contextual examples, selected by the method of continuous sampling from the stories of H. Böll. Research methods: linguocognitive analysis, description method, contextual analysis, comparative analysis and interpretation. Results. As a result of the research, it was revealed that the ironic text used for conceptualizing the surrounding reality contains a statement in which two or even more meanings arise simultaneously, and they either coexist or replace each other. H. Böll creates an ironic model of the situation by colliding frames and combining them in one model of the situation, resulting in a new ironic effect due to cognitive and linguistic factors. The task of the translator of an artistic text is to understand the author’s intention and make a successful transfer to another culture. To do this, the translator refers to the frame structures understandable to the recipient of the host culture. Practical implications. The results of this study can be used to further study the cognitive features of the text. In addition, the conclusions made on the basis of comparative analysis of the empirical material can be used in translation and stylistics.
