The article describes the situation, content and practise of Social Studies in Denmark both in the "Folkeskole" and the Upper Secondary School. Starting with a description of the examination system in Social Studies the article analyses the content of Social Studies with a focus on the goals of the teaching. The main point is that Social Studies in Denmark has a wide range of content from Sociology, Politics, Economics and International Politics. Further on the article gives examples of the didactic principles and describes the status for textbooks and teaching material. An important part of the article is an analyses of educational policy in relation to how Social Studies is governed and how the teachers are organised. In the last paragraph there is a discussion of Social Studies as preparation for further and higher education.
