Comparative investigation of using DEB oil and supercharging syngas and DEB oil as adual fuel in a DI diesel engine
Abstract
Improving diesel oil properties forthe reduction of hazardous pollution and decreasing depletion ofpetroleum liquid fuel leadsto the use of alternative fuels, especially ethanol and syngas fuels, developedfor useindiesel engines. This research aims to investigate the effects of using diesel oil mixed withethanol and emulsified butanol oil (DEB oil) and dual fuel (superchargedsyngas combined withDEB oil) on engine performance and emissions in a three-cylinder direct injection (DI) diesel engine. The enginewas connected to a generator and tested at various speeds atfull load. The results of using DEB oil compared to diesel oil showedthat it had fuel properties similar to diesel oil, withbetter engine performance and reducedpollutionemissions, i.e.,CO2, CO, and black smoke. Syngas was generated witha downdraft gasifier using charcoal. It was compressed to increase the gas flow rate from 76 to 125 lpm, combined with DEB oil and used asdual fuel. The results of engine testing compared DEB alone and diesel oils. Theyindicated that DEB oil and superchargedsyngas as adual fuel had higher engine performance. Moreover, compressing syngas at 125 lpm comparedwithusingDEB oil alone atanengine speed 1600 rpm and full load found that the fuel-savingsincreased by25.85% and 23.53%, respectively. Conversely, someemissions were greatlyincreased with greatersyngas quantitiesand engine speeds.
