Representações sociais, envolvimento nos Direitos Humanos e ideologia política em estudantes universitários de João Pessoa Social representations, human rights involvement and political ideology in university students of João Pessoa

Abstract

Este artigo analisa as representações sociais que estudantes universitários têm do envolvimento nos Direitos Humanos e a relação dessas representações com o posicionamento político dos estudantes. Um estudo realizado com 400 universitários da cidade de João Pessoa revela que a representação do envolvimento nos Direitos Humanos é analisável em 4 dimensões: pessoal-abstrato, pessoal-concreto, governamental-abstrato e governamental-concreto. De um modo geral, os estudantes consideram que o seu envolvimento concreto nos Direitos Humanos é superior ao do governo brasileiro, mas julgam, na ordem abstrata (o que deveria ser), que a aplicação desses Direitos é de responsabilidade do governo. Verifica-se também uma relação positiva entre o ativismo político dos estudantes e o envolvimento com os Direitos Humanos. Finalmente, no que concerne aos partidos políticos, constata-se que a simpatia pelo PMDB relaciona-se positivamente com a crença de que o governo brasileiro se preocupa realmente com os Direitos Humanos, enquanto a simpatia pelo PT relaciona-se negativamente com essa crença.This paper analyses the university students' social representations of human rights involvement and the relationship of these representations with the students' political positioning. A study carried out with 400 students of João Pessoa shows that the representation of human rights involvement can be analyzed from 4 dimensions: personal-abstract, personal-concrete, governmental-abstract and governmental-concrete. On the whole, students regard their real involvement in Human Rights is superior to the Brazilian government involvement. However, in the abstract order of how it should be, they consider that enforcing the rights is government responsibility. It is also shown that there is a positive relationship between students' political activism and Human Rights involvement. Finally, as far as political parties are concerned, it is observed that political sympathy with PMDB correlates positively with the belief that the Brazilian government is really concerned with Human Rights, whereas political sympathy with PT has negative correlation with that belief.
