Nival-glacial bodies in the Barguzinsky Range

Abstract

General characteristics of nival-glacial formations in Barguzinsky Ridge are given in the paper. The study based on field investigations, the analyses of maps, interpretation of the Earth remote sensing data using GIS-technologies. The database of glaciers and snowfields in Barguzinsky Ridge served as a base of their inventory. All snow and ice bodies are divided into four specific groups. The materials demonstrated in the paper support the tendency of glacier shrinkage in Southern Siberia. During last 50 years the total area of snow-ice bodies in Barguzinsky Ridge reduced by four times, but the total area of corrie glaciers diminished by two times.
