Abstract

Between Theology and Literature: The Locus Theologicus and Its Role in the Worksof Clement of Alexandria on the Example of the Paedagogus This article is an attempt to describe one of the works of Clement of Alexandria (c. 150 – c. 212 AD) in the context of the role played in it by references to other literary works. Clement’s Paedagogus has a complex and hybrid structure, built on numerous quotations and allusions from Christian and pagan works. An analysis of the role of the Bible and classical literature as locus theologicus not only demonstrates the formal and genological complexity of Clement’s manual of moral theology, but also reveals its aesthetic, rhetorical and theological aims. Między teologią a literaturą. Locus theologicus i jego rola w twórczości Klemensa Aleksandryjskiego na przykładzie Wychowawcy Głównym celem artykułu jest próba opisania jednego z utworów Klemensa Aleksandryjskiego (ok. 150 – ok. 212) w kontekście roli, jaką odgrywają w nim odwołania do innych dzieł literackich. Wychowawca Klemensa ma skomplikowaną i hybrydyczną strukturę budowaną na bazie licznych cytatów i aluzji pochodzących z dzieł chrześcijańskich i pogańskich. Analiza roli Pisma Świętego i literatury klasycznej jako „miejsca teologicznego” nie tylko pokazuje formalną i genologiczną złożoność podręcznika teologii moralnej Klemensa, lecz także ujawnia jego estetyczne, retoryczne i teologiczne cele.
