Production of papaya (Carica papaya L.) with nitrogen and sulfur doses
Abstract
The present work had the objective of evaluating the responses of papaya papaya, Sunrise Hawai variety to the effect of nitrogen doses, using ammonium sulfate as source. Five doses of nitrogen were tested in the substrate: 0; 400; 800; 1,600 and 2,400 mg dm-3. A randomized complete block design with four replications and ten plants per plot was used. In each application of nitrogen, 20 ml of solution of each treatment in the form of ammonium sulfate containing 20% of nitrogen was added, and the application was repeated four times. It was verified that the use of nitrogen fertilization in cover guarantees a higher quality of 'Papaya' papaya seedlings (lap diameter, shoot height, root length, chlorophyll content, leaf number, shoot dry matter, root and total) at the approximate dose of 1,861 mg.dm-3 of nitrogen in the substrate.
