Prevalencia de la Obesidad y Sobrepeso en Estudiantes, Docentes y Personal Administrativo de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud de la UNEMI
Abstract
At global and population level, being overweight and obesity are two major problems of malnutrition. According to the National Health and Nutrition Survey (2013), in Ecuador 26% of the population aged 12 - 19 are obese and 63% of adults overweight. 30% of adult men and 40% of women, do not perform physical activities. The present study, which is analytical an descriptive in nature, was developed from a sample of 402 people, which represent 44 % of the universe, made up of students and staff of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Public University of Milagro, (UNEMI), in the period from October to December 2013. Anthropometric data, BMI and blood pressure were analyzed. The main findings indicate that 37 % of the samples are obese and overweight, with prevalence in women; it is noteworthy that the blood pressure in overweight and obese population remains normal at 81%. 76% of cases were overweight while 20 % were grade I and grade II obese.
