The purpose of this paper is to discuss the idea of collection with an interdisciplinary approach, between ethnosemiotics, semiotics, anthropology, art and science. The work is divided into three parts: the first part attempts to introduct two James Clifford’s concepts, collection and ethnographic surrealism. The second part shows how visual semiotics and ehtnosemiotics can be combined in order to analyse the meaning of the phenomenon of wunderkammern. The third part contains some outlines about the notions ‘semiotic gaze’ and ‘observation’ between semiotics, ethnosemiotics and ethno-anthropology.
