This paper analyzes the performance “O mudinho”, in Brazilian Sign Language, by Edinho Santos, interpreted by James Bantu, published on YouTube on 18/01/2018 and presented in SLAM-SP. In this analysis we herein present ethical and aesthetical reflections on deaf poetry slam, a recent phenomenon in Brazil, but very promising as to its growth. As a result, we identify mechanisms through which the poetry of Brazilian Sign Language is manifested in this presentation, along with political and identity issues interwoven with the artist’s performance.
