Parenting and school socialization: perception of two groups of teenager middle school students
Abstract
This work aims to know the perceptions that teenagers construct about the parenting adopted by their parents and their school socialization. This study used a qualitative approach, because it used the semi-structure interview as data recollection techniques. The research subjects are middle school teenager students between the ages of 12 and 15 that make up two study groups: teenagers with school reports of having school socialization issues, and teenagers who don’t. The conclusions show that characteristics from parenting style contribute to the child’s learning regarding the way in which he or she relates. All of this prooves the importance of aspects such as discipline, communication and affection in the family dynamic as elements referring to the teenager’s socialization. Therefore, characteristics of teenagers with their parents influence in the emotions and thoughts that guide the teenagers’ behavior in other social contexts such as school
