Dr. Matija Slavič (1877–1958) translated the Bible on the basis of critical sources in Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek and Latin. The first principle of translation is the accuracy of the translation according to the original text. The second principle requires a critical-comparative approach to the original texts and the translations based on them. The third principle, which was very important for Slavič, is the care for clear and precise expression in the Slovene language. As the vernacular develops, it is necessary to check the accuracy of the translated forms over and over again. An important principle for him is to take care of the continuity of Slovenian translations of the Bible. For his translation work, which at certain periods of his life was subordinated to national, cultural and political mission, he was intensively educated all his life. Dr. Slavič is the main author of the sixth complete translation of the Bible into Slovene, which represents a milestone in the modern translation of the Bible in Slovenia.
