Resituer la mondialisation. Récit d’une enquête sur la prise en charge administrative de l’audiovisuel international en France
Abstract
A sociological research on the handling of the audiovisual globalization by the French administration lays the ground for redefining globalization as a reality that has not been self-evident, necessary and irreversible. Even if such a globalization remains inseparable from the international trade itself, it is far from being accounted for by the laws of economics alone. In fact, it integrates altogether a national field, transnational flows and international spaces and it has its own history, agency and places. First, it had an history of being diversely appropriated within the French bureaucratic field, starting from the 1980s. Second, it relied on the agency of various gatekeepers who have been involved in trading audiovisual goods worldwide, and who have been specifically targeted by the French Foreign Ministry. Third, it can be traced back to specific places, such as international TV and film markets, that are privileged observation sites of the globalization in the making.
