The transformational transformations of the institution of the family affected all aspects of family relations, including the impact on the views, attitudes, value orientations of the younger generation. In turn, scientists are divided in their opinions regarding this transformational state of the modern Russian family. Proponents of the crisis argue that the transformation that has taken place entails a destructive state of the institution of the family. Supporters of family transformation believe that these transformations are due to the modernization process and are generally positive. Today, the institution of the family is a specifically modern phenomenon, significantly different from the traditional model of the family with its behavioral characteristics. The difficulties that the modern generation may face are a consequence of the contradictions that arise in the institutional space of the family in the course of transformational transformations. The position of the family, its functions and the spiritual and value component have undergone significant changes. The article highlights the results of a sociological study conducted in order to identify the opinions of representatives of various social groups about family traditions. The object of the study was two groups of the population, determined by age: young people from 18 to 30 years old and the population over 50 years old. As a research method, a questionnaire was chosen, since this method allows one to study a large number of opinions of selected groups of the population regarding issues of interest. A total of 100 people took part in the study: 50 representatives of the first and second age groups. The percentage of women and men in the selected groups turned out to be equal.
