The present work has like purpose to analyze how the development of the cultural identity in the basic level in Ecuador through history has passed. With the utilization of theoretic methods of the knowledge like the analysis and the synthesis and the dialectics of the historic and the logician, it is done an inventory of the main changes that have had place in the Ecuadorian Basic Education from the XIXth century until the present time, insisting in the way that the political, religious, cost-reducing and social forces have had an effect on the starting of educational models, through the different constitutions and laws or from the international policies and of the hegemonic power. It is emphasized in the incidence ofthose forces in strengthening or weakening of the local identities, in particular. This study allowed accomplishing a historic periodization of the development of the cultural identity in the Ecuadorian basic level, with emphasis in the local context, which, in turn, lays the foundations, for the elaboration of pedagogic strategies that contribute to achieve a bigger efficiency and quality in the present Ecuadorian educational system.Keywords:cultural identity, basic formation, educational reforms, cultural identity development, history of education.
