Arheologie subacvatică în România competență, siguranță și legalitate în scufundarea arheologică

Abstract

Underwater archaeology is a form of research which is conducted in a hostile environment and which requires those who practice it to exercise intense physical effort. Archaeologists and collaborators who make up the working team need to acquire and demonstrate adequate diving skills and to prove that they are underwater archaeology specialists by having a certificate or a license granted by authorized institutions. Scientific and submerged work activities require the use of some special devices, equipment, and means of transport, which the team members need to know how to use properly and safely. If a few decades ago the investigations, exploration and research were conducted in an empirical and spontaneous manner, technical and technological development, the adoption of the legislation on underwater cultural heritage and of some archaeological standards and procedures discipline organized underwater archaeology into a standards professional discipline. Today, Romania has aligned itself with the international standards and built a legislative architecture which regulates the submerged archaeological scientific study according to criteria of competence, legality, and safety.
