The present article proposes to present a research that deals with Rural Education and has the scope to problematize the social function of the rural school in settlements of agrarian reform, with the contribution of the philosophical principles of education to the Movement of Landless Workers (MLW). The school is located in the Jose Maria settlement, in Abelardo Luz, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The methodological option was a historical-organizational case study, through documentary research. The data were organized and presented in three time periods: from the beginning of the camp to the foundation of the school (1996-1998), the first period of operation, marked by a process of stagnation (1999 to 2005) and the resumption of the school approach with the MLW (2006-2016).
