When approached from the point of view of travelling, Juan José Saer’s literature turns out to be quite revealing. The traveller’s condition underlies in particular in the constant “displacement” of literary genres: the act of writing fiction, essays and, above all, poetry can be considered, in its various alternatives, as the writing of a Travel Journal, thus resuming an American tradition where Rubén Darío’s figure is commonly considered an indisputable reference. This article explores this aspect in several moments of Saer’s work, especially in relation to the writing of a travel journal (a very concrete type of writing, gathered in a typed manuscript under the name of “Notas en vivo”) and the writing of poems.
