National Strategic Council for Health of CIP - «The Economic Value of Health»

Abstract

The National Strategic Council for Health of the Confederation of Portuguese Business (CIP) held last October 12th at the Lisbon Congress Centre the conference on the “Economic Value of Health”. The conference aimed to highlight the importance of Health to the development of the Portuguese economy, given its capacity to generate jobs, and to increase exportation and investment in innovation. It was attended by the leaders of the most representative institutions within the health sector. We publish below the speech given by António Saraiva, President of CIP, at the conference opening session. We also highlight the intervention made by Óscar Gaspar, economist and former Secretary of State for Health.
