This article examines the role of the editor in the fabrication of meaning in a persuasive text. A number of language and structuring procedures are available to the editor in order to create an apparently clear and efficient text. However, these procedures are not the sole contributors to the creation of meaning : they merely point to the existence of an underlying intelligibility plan, that is to say, a veritable writing strategy which takes into consideration the complexity of all communication situations.
