The main regulatory instruments affecting water management in the State of Goiás, Brazil are composed by the 1988 Federal Constitution and the State Constitution of Goiás in 1989. In addition to these, the management of water in the State of Goiás is embodied in the law establishing the State policy of governing water resources article 140 of the State Constitution. The implementation and management system of water resources, must follow the principles adopted by this law, in accordance with: the Federal Constitution, with the national water resources Policy and with the State Constitution. The study of the laws that trace the water management in Goiás demonstrates the potential for involvement of universities for studies applied in mapping of water bodies and water quality, as well as the developments of the studies on perspective of interdisciplinary environmental knowledge construction, drawing on multidisciplinary teams, with specific and integrated research on several levels.
