Abstract

In this interview, anthropologist Françoise Lestage revisits the pioneering work she dedicated to the study of death in migration, as well as its recent outcomes in this new field of study at the threshold of disciplines and methodologies across the social sciences and the humanities. She analyses the way in which death in migration questions the constitution and expression of identities both personal and collective, and addresses the centrality of violence (and in particular that of states) in recent interpretations of this phenomenon.
