The study of chamber music at university is one of the most interesting creative disciplines. The article is devoted to the problems of teaching methodology with a classical wind instruments quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, bassoon) in several aspects. The author analyzes the relationship between the teacher and the ensemble members, the formation and role of the leader (concertmaster) of the quintet. One of the essential problems is communication between the teacher and students in the chamber ensemble class as a creative process that enriches both sides. An important section of the proposed text is devoted to some of the most significant, typical problems of performing in a classical wind quintet. Here we consider the specific features of acoustic balance inherent in work with a classical quintet, work with various versions of romantic pieces that form the basis for an ensemble of this type, and the possibility of self-control of musicians during rehearsals. The article also analyzes the principles of independent work of students and features of performances at concerts and exams. This publication is based on more than thirty years of experience at the Moscow Conservatory and observations of colleagues who teach chamber music at higher schools.
