E-catalogue «Periodicals» Database of V. O. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Pedagogical Library of Ukraine: Experience of Formation and Prospects of Development

Abstract

The article presents one of the areas of information and bibliographic activity of Sukhomlynsky State Scientific and Pedagogical Library of Ukraine - the formation of «Periodicals» e-database. This resource reveals the content of the contemporary periodicals library stock and serves as a guide in searching documents published on the pages of periodicals. Organizational bases, principles and process of database formation are studied. The author emphasizes a number of tasks concerning modernization of the resource, the solution of which can provide for potential of the database technological platform - IRBIS-64 Library Automation System (LAS). Carrying out tasks will make it possible to improve the quality and efficiency of the automatized analytical-synthetic processing of periodicals and the level of bibliographic service of readers considerably.
